Through a survey of 3,000 people, on Twitter and LinkedIn, the Kucoin platform provides us with some information on this booming sector. Between interest in a career, lower involvement of women in the launch of projects, and the potential offered by the sector.
Kucoin Survey Methodology!
The crypto exchange Kucoin has just published a report on the web 3. Soberly named “Web 3 Career market”, it seeks to explore professional engagement in this sector. To reach its conclusions, the published report is based on the responses of 3,608 respondents. Respondents who have all used the social network Twitter or LinkedIn.
Before discussing the survey results in the following sections, it is important to understand who the respondents are. 16% of respondents are classified as Web 3 professionals or working in related sectors such as digital assets, metaverse, NFTs, DAOs, or even decentralized finance (DeFi).
Among professionals in the sector or related sectors, 59% are under 30 years old. 24% work full-time in the sector. The majority work there part-time, as a freelancer, or as an entrepreneur. Of all the more than 3,600 respondents, 54% say they are enthusiastic about Web 3. If they have never worked on it, they say they are interested in the sector.
64% of respondents were interested in a career in the web 3
The ' Journey Into Web3 ' report released by the Kucoin platform showed that 64% of participants were interested in exploring career opportunities in Web3. Although these professions require specific skills and a certain form of adaptability, many profiles today seek to find a place for themselves on the web 3.
The global pandemic has dramatically accelerated digital transformation and ways of working. Sometimes without really understanding how web 3 works, some do not hesitate to consider that the sector could modify working methods.
Kucoin's recent study tends to show that those who have never worked in the web3 industry are eager to explore opportunities in the blockchain space.
Among the main advantages of working in the web3, respondents cite the flexibility and growth opportunities of this nascent sector. The possibility of innovation is also a very big advantage for the sector. An advantage that respondents do not hesitate to highlight.
Women less involved than men
This is another lesson from this report published by Kucoin. While the web 3 sector seems to employ as many men as women, women remain much less involved in launching web 3 projects.
Thus, among professionals, 27% of female web 3 professionals have already been involved in the launch of web 3 projects. For a roughly equal number of professionals, 41% claim the role of web 3 entrepreneurs at men's.
Among the obstacles, the women above all cite the “bro” culture that reigns in the milieu. The lack of educational resources would also be seen as an obstacle to the engagement of women in this sector. A problem that some collectives have already taken up, wanting more inclusiveness in this sector of web 3.
Web 3: More potential than the NFT market?
In any case, this is what the professionals in the sector, interviewed by Kucoin, seem to consider. In the survey, more than half (53%) of those classified as web 3 professionals say they are satisfied with their careers.
If we are to believe a recent report by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), published on July 22, the web 3 sector could encompass more than a billion users by 2030. An element that tends to give credibility to the assumption that we are only in the early stages of Web 3.
For most respondents, web 3 embodies the revival of the internet and goes well beyond the issues of crypto adoption. For web 3 professionals, the metaverse sector would even have more potential than that of NFTs.
Last June, an investment company also looked at the investment preferences of millennials. The survey, conducted in the United States, revealed that millennials are investing heavily in digital assets. Proving along the way their appetite for investment products and emerging sectors.
